rats are great pets! but not for a dorm room, especially when they aren't allowed. for one thing the rat will be lonely, it's best to have them in pairs. also, the size of enclosure you need for even one rat isn't conducive to hiding, let alone the smell. also, what happens if you get caught? a pet is not a toy to be tossed away when you get caught, it is a living creature with feelings. rats make really good pets, but only when you have the time and place to keep them properly. why not just get a goldfish for now? they can be surprisingly interesting and fun if you give them a chance.

Buy those bed lifts that raise your bed off the floor, put the rat cage under your bed, and don't let anybody see it or know about it. When the door is closed, you can let the little guy out.
