My dr prescribed pills for me and this is my first time taking it. I have Yasmin 21. My question is which pill should I start taking, should I go with the day today? I don't have my period and haven't had it for 2 months now. Do I take the Fri pill or wait till Sunday. Also, when do they take effect? Should I wait for one month? Thanks in advance for all the input!

Is it true that if you are overweight it will affect the effectiveness of the pills? My dr didn't really explain the pros and cons of taking the pill. he just prescribed it.please help. how do you know if the pill is low dose or not?

Terri, thank you for your answer but that's not really my question. it does say on the instruction to try and take the pill at the same time everyday (that part is clear enough), my dr should've explained all this but didnt't. does it matter which pill i take first. don't they all have the same ingr in every pill?

You can start taking it whenever you want, but use a back up method - like condoms - for the first month.
I started mine on a Monday just because that was the day I filled the first prescription and I didn't want to wait until my next period.
The day you start ultimately affects what day you get your period each month. I start a new pack of pills each Monday and I get my period on a Thursday. If you start on a Sunday, you'll get it on a Wednesday.

Since you have already started the pills, keep taking them. You always start with the first pill in the pack. Packs are automatically labeled for Sunday start, but they usually have a sticker you can put over the labels for if you start on another day. It's OK if you didn't take the first pill this time, just make sure you take all of the pills in the pack. Next time you can start with the first pill in the pack. Read the insert that came with the pills, it will tell you when they become effective, though most doctor recommend waiting a full month before you stop using your back up form of birth control.

I have friends who are overweight and take the Yasmin and they are fine. It is effective when taken correctly. They used to make birth control pills that had high doses but I think it cause women to gain a lot of weight and become depressed. Also, I usually start on the Sunday since it's easier to remember.

You take the pills as prescribed.

Take the first pill, 24 hours later take the second pill, 24 hours later take the third pill... etc etc

Take them when you DOCTOR tells you to.

Use another form of protection for at least two weeks.
