Islam began about 600 AD, when a man called Mohammed said he was in touch with God, who wanted him to tell the world that there must be no more progress, folks must repent, lead a virtuous life and pray 50x daily. Mohammed persuaded God to cut this down to 5x. Each Muslim could have up to 4 wives and women must cover themselves up and stay home.
Muhammed was apretty persuasive bloke, but by the time he came on the scene most everyone was either Christian, Jew, Parsee, Hindu or Buddhist, so he could get only the uneducated country folk as followers. To hurry things up he declared that if people didn't convert to his religion (Islam) they could be killed and God (called Allah in Arabic) would be pleased. Islam is the only religion that sanctions killing as a means of getting converts and securing the murderer a certain place in paradise...... it goes on and on.
The Turks spread it by the sword into Europe and occupied Spain, Greece and parts of the Balkans for 400 years.....
This they now use as a claim to be European !!!
