I'm curious....Why do you Brits post here, in the US section, instead of the UK section? Most people in the US don't have a clue about British politics and care even less. In the UK section, wouldn't you get a better response?

I think impossible is the wrong term. Just because something hasn't happened yet does not mean that it is impossible.

I think, however, that there is a factor in Anglo-Saxon countries that makes it somewhat more difficult for parties of the left to win four terms in a row than it is for parties of the right to win four terms in a row. I think there is a general traditional conservative (with a small c) reluctance in the swing voters to change too much too fast. Because of this tendency, parties of the right who are trying to roll back the changes get a little more time to implement their agenda than the parties who are seeking more change. In other words, after three terms of change, the public gets the feeling that they have had enough change and now they want a chance to absorb and adjust to that change.

In short, the parties of the left tend to be the ones with the big earth-shaking ideas while the parties of the right tend to be ones with the small adjust at the edges ideas. Because of that tendency, the left reaches the limit of how the voters are willing to change much sooner.

The premise of your question is false; it is quite possible for the Labour Party to serve a fourth term, provided they win another general election.

I've selected UK questions and this question appears there. I wonder why it is appearing in the US section if it is.

Anyways I think after 3 terms the Tory party needed to lose the 4th election in the 1990's, it didn't and the party crashed. I think the labour party needs a spell out of office to refresh itself and it will come back stronger.

rukidding - your point is a good one and is something that also concerns us in the UK. We log into the UK site and find it full of US questions, and US answers to questions that must be meaningless to Americans. At first we thought it was because Americans could not tell an S from a K, but it seems to be incompetence on the part of Yahoo.
