I was going to say honesty...but you've made this a tough call. A presidential candidate SHOULD have all of the above....like we'll ever see that...

1. Honesty can work either way. Sometimes you get a crackpot who thinks God told them to bomb a certain country without even attempting diplomacy. Honestly, that's psychotic.
2. Competency should be a required test for all candidates. How did Bush ever slip through the cracks?
3. Morality is necessary, but too subjective when it threatens the separation of church and state.
4. Knowledge is very important unless it's used the wrong way. Repetitions of historical calamities are evidence of not learning from historical mistakes.
5. Decisiveness is an integral part of competency.

I wouldn't rank one good trait over another because they are all links of a chain of strength in which to break one would compromise the whole chain.

Competency and Knowledge. They must go together. If you have both, it will automatically lead the person to being decisive. If a person is competant then they are automatically decisive. Honesty and Morality in a political candidate is something I have yet to see in my 46 years of life. I just don't think it exists. All of History proves me right on this one.

Honesty and Competency above all else.
Sagacity and knowledge are the # 2.
Decisiveness and morality 3.

Competency & Decisiveness. Knowledge can be filled in by the cabinet and staffers.

The other two are traits are liabilities.

Competency, absolutely. I would think morality and honesty go together--someone who lies is lacking in the morals department, wouldn't you say? And if you are competent, you are doubtless knowledgeable and decisive about what must be done.

2. Competency
(with 4 & 5 NOT far behind)

If the naive electorate is searching for
honesty or moral leadership in politics~
they are looking in the WRONG Place!

1) honesty

BTW: 3 and 4 are redundant--if the candidate has 1 and 2 he/she necessarily also has 3 and 4

But I would put something not mentioned above all these:

Obeying the Constitution

precisely. John McCain does not stay as much as American ideals in any respect, and subsequently i'm no longer able to vote for him. A patriot needs the suitable for the rustic --John McCain needs it occupied with the wealthy.
