No criteria for "successful," and if you don't understand what I'm talking about, twin-headed dragon means two very qualified starting goalies. Just curious because three teams (literally a 4-6 hour drive from each other) have them, and I'm just wondering what was the last team to be successful at juggling that.

To me, the twin-headed dragon is when two goalies played 30 or more regular season games

The 1997 Detroit Red Wings used a two goalie approach with Osgood the primary starter over Vernon, but Vernon was the playoff star.

The 1984, 1985, and 1987 Edmonton Oilers all relied on Andy Moog and Grant Fuhr, with Moog being the regular season guy and Fuhr the playoff guy.

The 1981, 1982, and 1983 Islanders had the duo of Melanson and Smith

The 1980 Islanders had the duo of Resch and Smith

The 1970 and 1972 Bruins had Cheevers and Johnstone split the duties

82-83 Islanders were successful. Bill Smith 18-14-7, Rollie Melanson 24-12-5 during regular season, though Smith was THE MAN during the playoffs. Actually during all four of the Islanders Stanley Cups, the time was split during the regular season, then Smitty took over in the playoffs.

I might be mistaken, but my brain is telling me that 40,000 beers ago the Bruins had Gilles Gilbert and Gerry Cheevers manning the nets during the early to mid 70's. The Bruins won the Cup in 1971-72.

Never mind, I checked it out and it was Cheevers-Johnston that year.

they finished with the best record and most points in the league that year. It was also the Mark Messier Era.

Not 100% on this but i think the leafs had grant fuhr and felix potvin (he was excellent at the time) in the early 90's, 1993? when they went to conference finals vs. the kings.

A "twin-headed dragon" sounds like something you have to pay extra for.
