Chrysler Imperial, no. There's no way that was practical at all. They do not need a $60,000 luxury car that will have a low sales number, if it sells at all. They need volume.

I give the new management credit for taking a look at the lineup and cutting the fat. As a former dealer, I knew for a long time that things like the Magnum, and PT Cruiser Convertible, were not cutting it. Pacifica was actually a very good vehicle but it was at the end of it's life cycle and instead of making a totally new one, it was easier to discontinue it and let Chrysler have a version of the upcoming Dodge Journey as their crossover.

It's still going to be a long process. It will take about 5 years to overhaul the lineup into what they want to see. It takes about 3 years or so to develop a new vehicle from the ground up. In the meantime they can do certain things that need to be done like changing the interiors and materials on certain vehicles.

Well frankly, I think their severance from Daimler might have been a good thing. I owned ONE Chrysler during the Daimler era, and it was a beautiful car, when I could keep it out of the dealership bays.

The service response from Daimler Chrysler was pathetic. Unless they manage to build a better vehicle, and learn to stand behind what they make, I'd not consider another one.

Sad to say, I look toward the Japanese now for quality cars. Toyota and Honda have raised the bar, and the Big Three need to learn how to catch up.

I just saw an article that the Imperial will not be brought to market

As a smaller company they need to be nimble - if I was in charge -
1 - I would make sure they could produce the new challenger in big numbers - it should be a huge seller - I would offer it with a v6, the 5.7 and the 6.1 and with a stick shift
2 - they need a replacement for the Neon - and the Caliber is not it
3 - they have announced they will discontinue the PT cruiser, the Pacifica, and the Magnum wagon - I think I would have kept the pacifica and axed the Durango

With the downsizing I doubt you will see too many new models coming out for a couple of years. If they start to turn a profit they may decide to strip the company and sell parts of it to other companies. As for me I'm taking the $70,000 buyout and my pension and running,it has been a good 30 years but I believe the end is near.It is terrible that Americans can't see or don't care what is happening to this country, those Japanese vehicles are no better then the US vehicles.GM has more vehicles that get over 30mpg then Toyota has,I don't know I just don't get it.

Don't give up on them. Just because they are cutting back on labor doesn't mean they will give up the great cars.

Those two models are likely to stay extinct because detroit has decided to build cheapy tupperware cars and not make long lasting steel tanks like the old days.
