You first need to register your business -- which could be your website name if you so chooses -- before you open a business bank account with your business name. Banks will look for your business registration forms.

Go to your local city/county clerks office if you are starting a sole proprietorship and register your business. Or for corporations, partnerships or LLC, go to your Secretary of State.

But banks require business registration so do that first,

Yes, you can use your business name. With added security measures enacted in part as a reaction to 9/11, they do require verification of the business name and that you have a right to use it. They basically have to confirm it's valid and not used for terrorism/laundering money. They'll ask you a lot of questions along those lines. They'll also want to see proof of the name.

This is typically referred to as a DBA (doing business as) or ABN (assumed business name). Either is typically easy to do. You can also ask your bank about listing your name with "DBA YourWebsite.com" included on the check. You may be able to get around some of the security. To find out about registering your business name (it varies by state), contact your state secretary for a business portal/commerce department. Also, you can inquire with the SBA/SBDC ... www.sba.gov/sbdc.

By registering... you probably need to go to your court house and file a "DBA" ... doing business as... they will also tell you what you need to know about having said business even if it is online...

~good luck
