Me - aged about 10 on an old upright no nonsense bike you just got the bike (in my case 2nd hand) and went out the front (we lived in a culdesac so nothing could happen to us!) I was so proud as I got the hang of it straight away, then going along brimming with confidence I rode to the curve at one end and turned the handle bar to return, the thing was that my bike was so old fashioned (even for then) that the wheel didn't turn properly it jammed and the bike stopped dead. I didn't and over the handlebars I flew like a bird and landed hard, slid along the road on my face, and naturally all the kids started to giggle, until I stood up minus teeth and with blood pouring from mouth nose and chin. I had a lovely time being spoilt in hospital for a week (I don't think, as the nursing staff took the Michael as well!) I survived (still got scars on my knees though!) I suppose I must have looked funny at the time but - oh it didn't half hurt! :-)

Hardly remember my Dad spending anytime with me when I was a kid. Too busy with work. Mom was too lazy. I had to learn on my own. My first bike was one with a banana seat and I felt so bad because all of my friends were taught by their parents. So, I finally just did it after 6 or 7 tries without training wheels.

My dad taught me how to ride a bike. He wouldn't allow me to use training wheels. I learned really quick.

My brother and no training wheels. I just got on it rode a little way crashed, but I kept going until I could balance on it and rode like the wind. My neighbor was not to happy with me as I ended up on his new grass, but hey I was a kid, first time on a bicycle.
