attn:Dodge man great answer my truck has only 104,000 miles on it.I took it to the shop and they suggested the intake gasket needed replaced.I need a second opinion.Could it be both intake gasket and valve seals? My truck runs great and has lots of power. My only concern is the blue smoke after it warms up and only after I've idoled for a few min.(like after I have to stop at a stop light and then accelerate,it blows blue smoke and then goes away) don't want to replace a lot of things just to fix this problem as that could get very expensive.I hope this extra info. helps. Thanks Again!

yes a bad intake gasket will cause this ,the only thing is you cant really tell when those are leaking most of the time,if its running good you can try spraying a small amount of carburetor cleaner around the gasket and sometime this will make the idle speed up on it ,but not always, you said it ran good and that doesn't indicate a bad gasket, but they can leak on the lower side ,and the only way to find out is replace them,i wish i could tell you more ,but on that particular problem that's all you can do is replace it,500 miles to a quart of oil that's a lot,but valve stem seals will use that much also if there totally shot, have them look at it again before making any repairs to it,not many ways to tell if its the gasket or not,i know about the expense thing ,that's why id have them recheck it and be sure, they should be able to give you a pretty certain answer on this one, good luck with it.

The chance of the intake gasket causing the problem is slim to none, 80 percent change it's the valve seals.

for a possible quick fix use a quart of Lucas. Dodge trucks in those years had a problem with the belly pan gasket leaking. It is an internal leak and I don't remember customer complaint with the motor smoking. But it would use one to four quarts of oil in thousand miles.

forget the gasket, replace valve seals and you will be ok.

A quick fix will be switching to a heavier oil like valvoline maxlife 10W40, 10W50 or 20W50
