lower the lifts to the ground, set the hand brake, and remove the key or if no key, turn the engine off.
You add distilled water, or electrolyte, if that is your resposibility. Larger factories will have people working in the battery crib that will take care of that when they put the battery on a charger.
On a grade, you should back the lift down the ramp, and lower the load as low as possible. You only go either up or down a grade and not sideways.

Set forks flat on the ground,set parking brake,shut off and remove key.
No we don't add water to our batteries ours run on LP fuel,but you do add water on the battery if it is a battery powered fork lift and it is low.
Do not turn when your load is in the air this will throw your center gravity which could make the lift tip over.Stay off steep inclines.Make sure when load is in the air you don't side shift to fast.Go slow,make sure your forks are set wide enough for the load.Don't pick up more weight than the truck can lift.
