Ok, what everybody else missed, is that you just got your goldie
And every fish you get, needs time to adjust to his new environment, and it's not unusual at all that he won't eat in the first 7-10 days, you won't even starve him to death, if he doesn't eat, just try it later again
But, please take out the food if he hasn't eaten it after 5 min

As a usuall routine, you should feed him twice a day as much as he will eat in under 2 min, the rest needs to be netted out
Also fast him one day outa the week for the whole day, this will prevent him from getting constipated
Also don't forget to do regular waterchanges of 25% weekly with a gravelsiphon and top off with conditioned water
Also, i hope you have him in at least a 10 gallon tank which is filtered and not in a tiny bowl, because if you don't have a tank, this might be another problem he won't eat because he is more busy on getting air in his lungs
here is an article on proper care of a goldfish

Hope that helps
Good luck

Katie's answer is great. Also, you can make a gel food out of baby food by mixing in unflavored gelatin in the baby food and letting it set up then cutting it into tiny bits. This is candy to goldfish. Also, goldfish will eat a wide variety of veggies and fruits, and veggies and fruits are a very important part of their diet. Not all of them will like everything, but try everything and see what they do like. Parboil all of the firm veggies and fruits because goldies don't really have teeth to bite to speak of. There are also several types of frozen foods in the refrigerated section of your fish store. Plankton, krill, brineshrimp, bloodworms and combos of these things. All fish also love this stuff.

this is kind of expensive but this is what my dad does....he gets baby food like peas squash carrots and the like and puts it int a blender, now heres the gross part lol you take earth worms european night crawlers are the best and you can also put blood worms in there to. blend it all together and then poor it out on a cookie sheet evenly and then stick it in the freezer...as you feed you goldfish you can break off little peices each day about three times a day. The gold fish will grow like mad from all the nutrients

goldfish are part of the carp family and are essentially bottom feeders, ask the store people for a sinking pellet type of food.

I did that w/ my gold fish and it worked well.

Try Crackers. When i use to run out food for my goldfish they loved cracker. After awhile i only fed them crackers and they lived 10 years. Non salt crackers i shoud say. Just break them up and that should work Good Luck
