The cradle of civilization was Mesopotamia, a region known as the "fertile crescent" which was bet the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. The water was irrigated to plant crops...Egypt was around the Nile, used to import & export goods throught Ethiopia, Nueba etc.. so great civilizations were usually around water!!!!

there had to be something to eat and something to drink...and most importantly, I think, there HAD to be the conditions whereby animals and plants could be domesticated. Once man could remain in one place and have his basic needs met, "civilization" could develop.
