I would clean everything the tank and change the substrate.. Corn snakes like the Aspen. Make sure the snake has a water bowel big enough for him and also an under tank heater. Snakes need a heater. Do you know why your snake died.

When any of my pets die... I clean out the whole tank and change the bedding and the water. Your snake could have died from the subtrate.... I would get the kind that I use. I use a coconut husk for my snake. Because my snake is a Brazilian Rainbow Boa he needs humid temperatures unlike most snakes. The coconut husk hold humidity instead of absorbing it. But if you got a different kind of snake that needs humid temperature I would recommend The coconut husk.

Either way the guy at the pet store say that this bedding was okay for the snake to digest which might have been why your other snake died.

Good Luck with your snake.

I would definitely clean the cage with a diluted bleach solution. You might want to find out why your snake died. Was it something you did, or was it always sick? Are you getting your new snake from the same place you got the other one? If so, WHY??? Make sure you have thermostat to control the temperature on the UTH or heat lamp (whichever you decide to use) or it will get too hot. You'll need a hide for both cool and warm sides.

anytime a pet dies and you don't know what the cause was its a good idea to replace the substrate and wash its tank.
the prepackaged kits generally have everything you need and sometimes a few items you can get away without.
the items in this kit sound like the sort of things you could use. (especially if you didn't have a uth for the first snake)so i would recommend you get it.
make sure you ind out when the new snake ate last or make arrangements to be there when next it eats to ensure its a good eater.
goodluck with the new one.

Not only would I get new substrate, but I would clean and disinfect the habitat and structures also.
