US Government spending is paid for by taxing (people).

The government can borrow money (as people and business can) based on good faith and general belief it will pay back the money.

The question US voting public needs to ask [this is not a Dem / Republican thing - GOD knows Republicans can spend in this congress] : is the Government spending in the "best" interest of Americans? Simple - right?

Every 1 $ spent needs to be an investment to "better" the lives of Americans [not the lives and empires of politicians]. For some reason Gov. seems to forget this - focusing on spending in return for votes from PACs or Labor Unions or even the government voting to keep it's own jobs.

The world is now a competative "free market" - offshore resources, business [Thx to the internet] can locate in any country and have a global reach. What this really means is that OUR US Gov. needs to be VERY efficient with the $s it spends and the return on those $'s. Government needs to focus on education, infrastrucutre and transportation, mandate competative markets and encourage business creation. Complex TAX codes that take 20 accountants and FSBE + 2 lawyers to interperate need to go.

Our Gov. needs to run more like a shrewd business then a Gov..... is this possible - that is another question. Perhapse America's version of democracy has a price that China does not pay.

Last military - USA has 10x's the military spending of the next closest country. The US has acted as the single world dominant power for the last 17 yrs apx. This has helped bring stability to global markets - trade has increased and the global stock indexes reflect this. HOWEVER, this too comes at a price...should Dems get in office [or miss guided republicans] and choose the route of more taxes, more gov...and B/c we are not competative - use trade barriers and currency manipulation and tarrifs....at the same time...cut military spending - I guarentee, when new military leaders emerge on the globe - YOU WILL HAVE A REAL CONFLICT.
ROME was a single sphere of power that gave birth to a vast civialization and prosperity - when it fell... the void caused WAR for years on end.

The only thing we can all hope is that WE the people and our children build relationships arround the globe - strong understanding and bonds... we tell our politicans that GOV is not about THEM - it's about US.... and we pray to GOD that the relationships we have prevent US from pulling the trigger on another human under false political self serving pretences.
Amen.

It's really not a matter of want, it's a matter of having to do what none of us really wants but, all realize has to be done for our country to become fiscally sound! However, it should be first raised on the wealthy! They have ridden on our backs long enough! I have never understood why a person needs millions of dollars & some even billions! No way in heck can they expect to ever spend that amount of money in a lifetime & why would you want to leave billions to your children to become worthless slugs in life! Sure, leave them some but, billions? Support your country so that your kids will have a future by paying your fair share of taxes, then leave them some money!

more money goes into the treasury when the tax burden is lowered. the spending, on the other hand, is not supposed to outdo the income. So these politicians that piss our money away like it's a cheap beer are the ones screwing us all.
Lower the taxes, which increases the revenue, then chop the hands off those bastards that overspend our hard earned money

Hello God.
You of all entities should know that the deficit is not nearly what it's purported to be. When you look at the total expenditure and contrast it by the funds coming in (GNP) you find that it is only a matter of about 9 years for it to all zero itself out -- barring of course the extremely likelihood that our representatives will find something else to spend the money on before the check is covered... I know, I know. *sigh* People don't like hearing (reading) the truth.
Amen!

The problem I have is it doesn't make a difference if there is a war or not. The Democrats would raise taxes, just to stay in practice and because they believe they know what is good for all of us.

Ok geegee, one last time, this is the United States, a capitalist society where people are allowed to use their full potential to earn as much as they want and do with it as they please. Now people like you and other progressives for want of a better term, believe in wealth distribution, just like Stalin did, or at least he said he did, until he got his hands on every body's money, then he decided who could have what along with the party elite, just like the "progressive elements" , like you, would if we were ever to allow you to have your way, which we won't.

You really should try to get a perspective. I doubt you can understand how much a trillion is. I know I cannot imagine it. But this war is costing about 5% of our GDP. in the 80's we spent 8% of GDP on the military. Think about it.

Limit congressional spending on earmarks. That will erase the deficit in no time flat!

From future generations and foreign countries.

China will put a trademark symbol on this country eventually. I say they stamp it right on Washington D.C..

We shouldn't have to worry about it. That's for our children and grand children to deal with. Think of what could have been done in the US with that kind of money.
