yes it is ok. The landlord is legally responsible for what goes on the property. Say for example you where growing pot or selling drugs, depending on the state you live in the landlord could be held equally responible or responsible to a lesser extent if the landlord was aware of the actions of the renter.

Heck yes, its OK! As a matter of fact, I have my tenants sign a "crime free lease rider" basically stating that if police find evidence of drugs in the apartment, that is grounds for the lease to be broken...with or without a conviction. (it's one hundred percent legal, too.) Being a landlord involves shouldering a lot of liability, and I want to reduce that liability wherever I can.

I think it would be legal for a landlord to insist that there be no illegal activity on his property. Would you expect him to allow you to keep stolen property there?? Same thing. By the way, in some states, if illegal substances are found there, the premises can be seized. In other words, he could lose his house!

terri is correct (as well as others)....the landlord HAS every right to tell you that you cannot have Drugs on his property.
He can have his property seized for that activity (even by the renter).
good luck :)

Of course it's ok. He's not saying don't do it, he is saying don't do it in his house. Drugs are illegal, and it's his house. He could get in a world of trouble over you being caught in his house with narcotics. I have seen people get evicted over this!

Unfortunately the landowner has a responsibility under federal law to restrict illegal drug use. His property could actually be confiscated from him if a drug dealer is busted in his apartment.
Fair? no, constitutional? no Moneymaker for local police and feds? yes
So hope you can see where your landlord is coming from.

The landlord did not even have to mention it.
It should go with-out saying.

Yes, but it usually is done in written form in a lease agreement.
ie; Any unlawful activity is grounds for immediate termination of lease agreement, and eviction.
