I notice every election pro lifers rally around the republicans but once elected, they back off.
As I understand it, the president has the power to appoint more justices to the court. Why have a nine justice court? Why not 11? or 13? That could shift the court in another direction. Why don't pro lifers insist on this?
I hear them talk about how each election will change the court forever, didn't Lincoln and FDR appoint more justices to get their way?

From Wikipedia:
"Since 1869, by statute, the Supreme Court justices numbered nine. Article III of the U.S. Constitution is silent as to how many justices may serve on the Court at any given time. Instead, the Constitution simply provides that the "judicial Power of the United States shall be vested in one supreme Court..." without specifying the number of justices on that Court. Only the office of "Chief Justice" is self-executing, as it alone is mentioned in the Constitution in Article I, section 3 as the officer responsible for presiding over presidential impeachments."
