How accurate was the television portrayal of American life in the 1950 ?

The picture people have of the 1950s is largely a product of television shows such as I Love Lucy, Leave it to Beaver, and other old black and white shows. How does the reality of life in the 1950s compare with how it was portrayed on television?

I don't know.........I wasn't even the apple of my daddy's eye back then.

All I know is that my family was nothing like they portrayed on TV. For one thing both my parents had to work and of course nothing was settled as easily as on TV.. lol
