Historically AMD has been faster in real world tests not lab tests. Also while some like dual core processors you lose about 10% to intra-processor communication overhead. Not all software applications can take advantage of dual core processors. The code is single threaded or the fuction does not lend itself to multi-processing.
One other thing is that it is not all about the raw speed of the processor but the amount of memory available and the speed and bandwidth of the busses. Remember that all processors wait at the same speed for data to be fetched to be processed so I/O bandwidth and speed is important.
For max speed a 64 bit processor is generally faster than a 32 bit processor. You handle twice as much data with each clock cycle. So a 2 gig 64 bit processor is almost twice as fast as a 2 gig 32 bit processor.

Intel C2 Duos are faster than its competitor AMD. Amd offers good performance for its prices. If u are a hardcore gamer go with Intel, but will cost more. Intel offers very good overclockiblity.

This is a very open ended question. Amd and Intel make processor's with different speeds.

In my opinion AMD works better because I have an Intel on my desktop and it runs slower than my laptop with AMD.
