I believe it is 55/45 in the dems favor. This is mainly due to WWII and FDR being in office. A lot of people are dems because their parents were dems. And if you talk to the older crowd a lot of them are getting disenfranchised by how far left the dems have moved. Hence all the republican victories.

I register opposite of my real party to mess with the other sides primary and then vote my party in the big one.

There are very few Democrats. The most declared political affiliation in America is Republican.
Most people that vote democrat are disenfranchised centrists. Actually just not Republican. With no one to vote for
