I'm 19.. and I've been working full time for 3 years now. Basically, after 3 years I'm still on basics..to put it blunt, im used to train people up and then they are taken from me and I watch them excell above me.
I asked my boss the other day why I'm still on basics and that, and he simply said because he doesnt think im commited enough to the work in general.. please people.. i've been there for 3 years and turned down many a job offer that my boss knows of.. isnt this proof enough?
and everyone else earns more than me, im on £6.50.. which i know is good.. but the people i train, then who become higher than me go on to become more valuable than me due to my teaching.. and they earn about £9 an hour..
what should i do??
new job or isn't there a rule book that says its unethical??..

I would ask your boss what about your job performance suggests to him the you are "not committed". Ask him to be specific (i.e. give examples). Advise him you are truly dedicated to moving up and want to know what you can do to get there.
If he avoids the question or gives a vague response... get another job. He obviously doesn't care or doesn't see any potential in you and you are wasting your time. I have seen well-qualified co-workers get walked over for their whole careers by bad management, without ever actually leaving and trying something new with a different organization.
If he gives you a thoughtful response and seems genuinely interested in seeing you succeed, then you need to really think objectively about what he says. Perhaps you are not aware of behaviors/habits affecting your performance. Ask friends and family to be brutally honest with you and see if they agree with your boss. You may need to realize and change some things about yourself. Once you go back to work, document in a notebook the times that you have demonstrated actions that he stated were needed to move up in the company. When your next review comes around, you can give him firm evidence that you are working towards that goal.
A good supervisor should want to help his employees succeed. If you don't feel he cares. Move on now! He won't change and you deserve a better work environment!
Good Luck

It is unethical, but I think it would be best just to look for a new job because they obviously don't appreciate your work. You'll probably be in the same boat if you stay another 3 years. Perhaps once you are gone, they will see how valuable you were to the company.

I know how you feel. I kinda had the same thing happening to me. If you get a better offer, I would take it. Most of the time you will find somrthing better and your boss now is probable not going to change the way he feels. I hope this helps you a little.

No rule book in America. Probably not one where you are either. Most the time when you change jobs, you find a better situation anyway. Always leave when they don't appreciate your talents.

After the first year or so, I would have started to look.
Your boss is just using you. He knows it. You know it.
So what are you going to do? It's your choice now.

Look for a new job. Once those requests for references from potential employers start landing on your boss's desk, it will make him/her/it have a serious rethink.

You could try and take it to court but it's hard to get a judge to be on your side with no hardcore evidence. But it could never hurt trying...
