because, even though you could say something interesting,
you don't want to reveal too much about yourself?

I'd like interesting answers please.
Anyone saying simply Yes or No will
get a thumbs down for being boring!

I meant that there is an assumption that the question is interesting to you, and it is with regret that you decide not to answer it.

Sam E, I'm not presuming what anyone else would do - I'm telling you what I did! lol

There was an interesting question yesterday (Iwon't tell you which one). I could have given a good answer, maybe worthy of a Best Answer. As I couldn't think of anything else worth writing, I left the question unanswered.

I wish I had kept more of my personal details a secret. I wish I had just fabricated my account so there was no proof of my real world existence. Because, then I could answer more questions with total impunity. If no-one could figure out that it was me in the real world I would dish up a whole lot more, because I could use the cathartic release of not having to bottle stuff up, even on-line.

There are 4 kinds of people on Y!A, You have the type that Y!A was made for, people who come on and ask serious questions about serious subjects, and will hate the idea of say the joke section. Then you have the gamers, who answer any rubbish just to get points Maybe they will give an on-subject answer, but it still didn't take any thought or care, the 2 points are all that is important. Then you have the worst kind of user, which is the abuser. Will just give insulting answers, TD everyone, troll and generally be a pain in the buttski! Then there are the 4th kind, the people who just want to reach out and get to know people, the questions may not serve any higher a cause other than to provoke conversations, and that generally does mean a level of honesty and openness.

I'm one of the 4th kind, but I'm still governed by my real world persona. Maybe I need a new account while being back at 100 points, I could then not hold anything back.

I wouldn't avoid answering a question for that - I'd just leave out the stuff I don't want to reveal.

The only reason I don't answer questions is because either I have nothing decent to say, or someone has already said what I think. This sounds obvious but it seems alot of people answer questions for the sake of it and just say something stupid or boring, which is a bit of a waste of everyone's time.

Oh all the time. Sometimes I go into the questions to see if I can answer anything, but the questions are kinda deep. The kind that have to do with religion or politics and I don't answer it cause I don't want to be THAT person that no one likes. I answered a question just the other day that was my own opinion, and it was ok, but someone gave me a thumbs down. No reason at all.

Yes. It's weird that I'll chat along saying things that show how I'm feeling, my general attitude and such, but in the back of my mind I have the thought that if I say too much, I won't be anonymous anymore and someone might take too much interest and I'll have a real "friend" on my hands. It's like I'm trying to keep people at arms' length even here. Well there you go, I feel pretty human right about now.

Yes, but only when I know it would create a biased hatred toward me and everything I'm associated with. I don't mind personally, but I have enough hatred direct toward my associations, personal and impersonal, that they don't need more stemming from reaction to my personality. Thus I use patience, and reveal things more slowly, or to specific audiences which do not have any prejudice against a personal perception they may hear from me.

To turn on very bright lights suddenly, when someone has just woken up in the dark, for example, tends to make some grumpy...

Yes, sometimes I go to answer a question, but when I start to answer, I think I'm just rambling on and I'm gonna forget the real question while I'm trying to explain my answer, so I just delete what I've already typed!!!! Does that make sense? Yup it does to me.

Sometimes I read a question that makes me think the person who ASKED that particular question simply wants to find someone to ARGUE with. Sometimes the question makes me think that the person who asked it just MIGHT have some real DEEP psychosis! These questions,,,I try to AVOID giving answers to,,,because I FEAR becoming connected to the DEPRAVED person that ASKED them!!! Some people are just beyond any help,,,and they are the people that I simply leave as I found them.

It's not that I don't want to reveal myself. I don't answer because 1.Either the question is boring, 2. Or I'm feeling particularly lazy and can't be bothered. 3. Don't have a pespective or advice that the asker needs.
