Before you declare a major at the community college...take the courses offered to the 4 year college that you want to attend. Not all the classes/credits are transferrable. Take all your required math, science, etc. at the community college because its cheaper. Every 4 year college has a number of credits you have to take there in order to get your 4 year degree. If you leave the community college with an associates...you should only have to do 1 1/2 to 2 years...if you follow the guidelines that I just gave you. Unless they are courses that you really want to take, but they aren't transferrable don't bother. Most degree programs have free electives that courses can be applied to, but if you are going to get a degree in education or engineering...the electives aren't open...they all have to apply to the degree.

I graduated from a 4 year college with a Bachelor's of Science in Communication. So here is the low down.
At graduation from the 2 year college you will receive an Associates degree in whatever you majored in.
The amount of time you spend at a 4 year college after graduating from a 2 year college depends on how many of your credits at the 2 year college transfer to the 4 year college.
Talk to the college rep for the 4 year college you want to attend. Ask what the school's policy is for accepting transfer of credits from a 2 year college.
Once your credits transfer you will still have to attend a minimum of 2 years at the 4 year college. The bulk of this time will be spent taking classes in your major. There also may be some required courses at the 4 year college that were not offered at the 2 year college or were not offered in as much depth at the 2 year college as at the 4 year college requires.
Also ask if some of your credits at the 2 year college can
fill the requirement of elective courses at the 4 year college.
Again differant schools have differant rules.

Good Luck.

It depends on what you want to major in. If you complete all the lower division classes needed for your desired major while you are at the community college, (BS, BA, etc) and take a full course load ever semester you should only need 2 years at a 4 year college. If you haven't decided on a major, it would be a good idea to talk to a counselor and your school. Some degrees require additional course work such are Architecture and some medical fields. Also, it isn't necessary to "graduate" from a community college to transfer, but it's usually cheaper to finish your lower division classes there.

You will probably have two more years at the University, depending up on what credits you still need for your degree. Are you going to graduate the community college with an associates degree? Or are you just transferring your credits to the bigger school for your bachlors degree?
If so you probably will have two more years.
