Though 23 may seem like an advanced age to get into acting without prior experience, i would urge you to go for it if it's your heart's desire. Remember no dream is really unrealistic and no goal unattainable once you belive and translate that belief into action

Everyone has to start somewhere, with acting age makes no difference at all. First off, get a video resume made, spend the cash and get it done professionally. Pick some scenes that you really like, you will be more natural, they don't have to be complicated scenes, they just have to show your range. Send copies out to acting agents, SAG can tell you reputable ones to contact. Send some to production companies as well, be proactive with this, and don't let rejections get you down, it doesn't mean they don't like your acting, just that they can't use you at the moment. They will like your go-ahead attitude, and will call you if they need you. It's a tough business to be sure, but when the going gets tough, the tough get going. Good luck, I hope I get to work with you in the future.

Yes, even if you had a resume with several credits on it you would have a tough time. The best advice I can give you after being in the business for 30+ years is study, study, study. Take an acting class - take many of them. Acting is a craft - it can be learned. Sure you might get jobs because you're cute but it won't sustain a career. Classes are also a good place to network, meet people and learn how to audition. You mention camera work so I take it you are on the west coast - if you were east coast you would be talking about theater. Yes, Hollywood is all about the image, your look, etc. - but you still need to know how to handle yourself acting in front of a camera - which is different then print modeling. So you need to find yourself a good on-camera acting class and a good scene-study class. Luckily you are a member of SAG - you can ask them for suggestions - also check-out Backstage West, Variety and the other trade papers - there are lots of classes there. Also ask around, other actors are great resources for good teachers - who did they like?
Best of Luck

everyone has a tough time. The question is do you want it enought to do what is necessary? You need to get your resume, however thin, together, get a headshot and try to get an agent. In the mean while, you take a class in acting, and you try to get som theatre experience in community plays.

i think you should try it out first before you make a decision. you got a lot of camera experience, so i dont think its going to be that difficult to enter the industry unless if you are HORRIBLE in acting. lolz.
but seriously, if this is something you've always wanted to pursue, then you should go for it! you are only 23, what do you have to loose?!

If you want it, then it's worth it. It's a difficult business and it's the kind of job where it's got to be all or nothing at all because it takes all you've got to get anywhere. That is unless you sleep with the right people.

At the start yes, most actors have a hard time at first because they are uncomfortable on stage and such. But, it's never too late to break into a new career, just give it your all and try your hardest to learn the lines and such and you will do great!

If you are as good an actress as you clearly believe then just do that "BELIEVE !"
Go for it and act your heart out to get the parts and when you make it,- as I am sure you will, post the fact on Yahoo Answers for all to see. Good Luck - have faith in yourself.

Yes you will have a tough time. And the "is it worth it" question can only be answered by your acting talent and abilities.

You can start at any age, as long as you have the energy for it. Great actors are those who pursue their dreams, not the ones who are young and bubbly for nothing.
