A few days ago, woman smeared with blood and screaming came within inches of the secretary of state. She belongs to an anti-war organization called Code Pink. She is now charged with multiple felonies for assualting a federal official.
Is this acceptable political protest or a crime against Sec Rice AND the sensabi;ities of a civilized society?

Thank you so much for this post.....

The day it happened, I also asked this same question...but had not heard what charges she was going to face....

I am so glad to hear that she is not going to get a slap on the wrist...she should be locked up for years....

Also, did you notice the other Code Pink "ladies"...acting like the "don't taz me bro" guy....whining and carrying on....

they have the balls to assault Ms. Rice, but when it is time to face the consequences....they want to act like THEY are the victims....

To say this was a disgraceful, cowardly act....is an understatement.

Law
Assault:
1. an unlawful physical attack upon another;

2. an ATTEMPT or OFFER to do violence to another, with or WITHOUT battery.

3. To act in a threatening manner as to cause someone to fear they may be harmed.

It should never have happened. It is an assault Not a legitimate protest. It's the same when Animal Rights Protesters toss blood on people who choose to wear fur or eat meat.

Definitely a crime against Rice. It amazes me that someone actually was allowed to get that close to her.
If something is not done with this type of attitude and behavior, someone is going to physically get hurt. I hope this woman is used as an example.
I'd also check out how they were even allowed there in the first place.

It is not acceptable and the sorry excuse for a human being who did it deserves to be prosecuted.
ADD: An assault is NOT a verbal threat as someone stated. Geesh!

I don't think it was a crime but it came extremely close. I don't know about multiple felonies, especially for assault, since the Secretary was never touched. She committed the tort of assault by putting her in imminent apprehension of physical harm, but I don't think her actions were criminal per se. It was hardly a legitimate protest, though.

Edit: Billy D, assault is not a verbal threat. Criminal assault requires physical harm. Also, the methods were not legitimate and she shouldn't hijack a government meeting (and waste our tax dollars) to make her point, however well-intentioned. Congressional hearings are not "free and open," they are where official government business goes on, and they shouldn't be held up by lunatics.

The Secretary impressed me, actually--handled herself very well.

Leftist are always hypocrites... it is their natural state... much as the collage students shut down the presentation of the Islamofascist information, but the same types cheer Iran's President.... Their goal is to shut down anything that opposes their world view by any means possible. Your Freedom and Liberty mean nothing to them.. they should be feared.

"Peaceably to assemble and petition the government for a redress of grievances" -- Constitution of the United States

***
If the protestor in this case was "peaceable" in your opinion, my distant cousin "Luigi" would like to discuss the state of your wallet. That he is 6 feet 5 and weighs 280 pounds shouldn't be a problem, should it?

No this is not acceptable and I hope that they throw the book at her and put her away. There are no excuses for lowly behavior like this. Additionally, it's downright dangerous. If that nutcase would have been armed with a knife, she could have done some real damage.

1. No 'assault' happened.
2. No 'radical lunatic', either.
3. Wasn't blood, either, but maple syrup.
4. No screaming, either.
5. No 'multiple felonies, either. She has been charged with a misdemeanour. (Max 180 days in the slammer.)

But I especially liked this pearl of wisdom:
Is this acceptable political protest or a crime against Sec Rice AND the sensabi;ities (sic) of a civilized society?

Where do get your information? Fox News? Limbaugh?
Thought so.

And you have some very silly answers here.
