You can research this with any basic corporate finance textbook.

The value of a company is generally described as the discounted stream of future cash flows you would generate from owning this company. This is in the purest intrinsic sense, as if you are the sole owner of the company. This requires projecting future cash flows and discounting them according to the cost of capital.

Public companies are evaluated in the same way, although public companies are generally ascribed a 15% premium in value to private companies to account for the liquidity of the shares and their access to public financing markets.
