I got a betta fish and I wanted to make it real happy until i got it a bigger bowl because it came in a retarded little plastic cup. And the sotre guy said to put like a few small rocks for it to hide. He said the fish liked to hide even when there was no threats. I have a few rocks outside. Like should I put many pebbles or should I put like one or two medium sized rocks?

Pebbles aren't gonna do much as far as security for fish... You would be much better off getting some plants... Plastic, silk, and live plants are all great, but make sure to leave your fish some swimming room. I would strongly advise AGAINST a bowl or vase. In such a small container, the temperature swings widely, which is very stressful. Also, small, unfiltered containers get dirty VERY quickly, so they require cleanings at least twice a week. If you get your fish a real tank (2.5 gallons with a filter and heater for about $20), you will see a MUCH more active, healthy, colorful fish. Email me if you have any questions.

Plants would be betta, uh, better. You don't say if he's still in the cup or not, and you don't need to worry about hiding places for him. Fish store clerks don't always know much about fish, though they should know at least the basics for the ones they sell. Store manager/owner would be the one to talk to.
Also, bettas are more a surface fish, so what good are rocks going to do?

I'm not going to go into anything other than to say SoopNazi is absolutely correct. I do not condone bowls or vases. Choose a 2.5 gallon tank with lots of plants. This is a home a betta can truly love and flourish in. And the guy above is right also. Be very choosy about what you listen to that pet store employees say. After all, this person sold you a bowl didn't they? Don't forget to cycle the water!
