Do you believe the 3rd world will always stay the 3rd world ? For example I can't see Africa or Palestine looking like Manhattan in 30 years let alone 300 . So do you believe the countries who compromise the 3rd world can ever be financial powerhouses ? Why or Why not .

I think this is a fascinating question and the answer partly depends on what we consider "the third world." I can see India developing technologically and, of course, the Union of South Africa will continue to become part of the world community now that apartheid has ended. I see hope for Thailand and South Vietnam. One problem in answering your question is the proper comparison. Looking like Manhattan? Perhaps not, but the goal of some 3rd world countries is to develop agricultural independence rather than to urbanize. Do you consider Belize or Costa Rica third world? Bother are peaceful countries and are becoming retirement havens for Americans. In fact, Costa Rica was the first nation in the world to abolish its military. Kuwait, Brunei, Dubai and the United Arab Emirates are wealthy and some of the former Soviet Union nations around the Black Sea have rich and untapped oil reserves. I do not see much hope for the majority of Africa, however, due to inter-tribal conflicts. I do see a lot of potential for some of the Southeast Asian nations, however.

I wonder if you have ever stepped out of US. Forget the future , right now there are lot of cities in the world which are better then Manhattan. , next 30 years this world will be totally different no matter where you go, poor or rich country.

They can be if given the chance to succeed. Let's not forget that countries are comprised of people and not land mass. Just because everyone in a country is poor or oppressed doesn't mean that they will always be that way. There was a time when the US and the UK were both in similar situations.

I dont think it will happen. Heres what I think about Africa. Its intentionally divided along lines that keep the tribes fighting each other. This has been done since colonial times. Why because its easier to extract everything from Ivory to the raw materials for cell phones (theres some special chemical in them that you get from the congo) if the country has no organized political body to consolidate the position and control distribution of the comodity. Its not very effective in Iraq because to extract their resource you have to have functional pipelines and anytime a faction is losing they sabotage the pipeline.
Read Heart of Darkness (better yet since we both drive long distances get it on a CD book (the reader guy talks a bit fast for me but you may like that))

It's hard to say. Based on the world today, it doesn't seem like they have much potential. But who knows what will power the economy of tomorrow's world? Maybe the next invention on the scale of the computer will come from Botswana, or it will turn out the key to global warming is a rare mineral from Bolivia. Who knows?
