My daughter has dyslexia. Writing is very difficult for her as well. However she is learning.

My son has dysgraphia which is another learning disability that can cause a lot of problems with spelling.

You need to be tested so that you can get help.

Don't let anyone tell you that you are stupid or don't know anything. Most dyslexics are extremely smart - they just have trouble spelling.

Let spell check on the computer become your best friend. Use it all the time. Do your school papers on the computer as well. Learn to use a dictionary well when you can't use the computer. Because of the disability a dictionary won't work as well for you but you can learn to use it to your advantage.

A program called Sequential Spelling is great for dyslexics. Also, on the computer, "Dragon Speak Naturally" is wonderful!

well, I have a few suggestions. First is that you be checked for a learning disability (this may have already happened). Secondly, I'd read real books where you can see the words spelled correctly. Everything online is slang and there is simply NO faster method. Third is just give yourself spelling tests and work hard. Maybe it won't be perfect, but it can get a lot better. Fourth- nevermind those idiots who are making fun of you (yes, I know that's easier said than done). Not that I suggest this, but you could always say "but I can learn to spell, but you'll always be ugly!!" jk!!

I understand what you mean, teens can be mean if you can't do something they can. Just tell them the truth, you can't spell but you can....and fill the blank in with something you CAN do well. Or do as my father told his teacher in second grade. 'That's why I'll have a secretary'.

To help your spelling. Try learning less words at a time. Instead of 10 words a week, take 7 or 5 and learn them well. That helped my son, who had a learning disability too.

I've always been a bad speller.. to the point anytime before sending something i would double check with spell check first.. what seem to help me was reading more.. the more your brain processes words the more familiar and easier the words become. i don't think there is anything you can say to these people that will stop them from taunting you. you have to remember they are 14 also and probably have insecurities of their own to deal with; pointing out yours makes them feel better. you could always talk to a teacher and see what programs your school offers that may be some assistance.

good luck =)

Are you sure you have a disability? You spelled disability correctly, and that is more complicated than the word suppose. Maybe you should just put a little more effort in sounding words out by syllable. As far as others teasing you, may I suggest maybe explaining your problem to them. If they still tease you, tell your mom or dad, or someone of authority at your school.

You spell better than alot of kids on this site, that's for sure. Don't try to defend yourself against them anymore. You are 14. So what if you have to work a little harder to spell than most. No one would know unless they see your homework. So, keep your papers to yourself. And when it is exposed, just say "yeah, I have trouble spelling sometimes. Big deal" and move on. You aren't the only one, I can promise you that!

well Im not disabled, 27 and I still spell some words wrong...... no ones perfect. just give it ya best shot. As long as people can make out the word, thats good enough for me

as for what u should say to them.... ask them to spell psychoneuroendocrinological or another word as long as that. Should shut them up.

A lot of people can't spell words right.

I know intelligent adults, who do not have disabilities that have trouble spelling.

Try sounding out the word, or just ask someone.

Hope i helped.
