I was wondering... how do i convince the parents of a 15 year old to let there son go to Europe with his school? I really want to go, but i don't want to ask them before I have a good, solid plan. any suggestions?

Thanks,
Wolf

Details would probibly be important, opps. haha uhh, its a trip that will be all summer break long, its going to cost around $3000, which I can pay myself, and its going to be with the Latin Teachers, who my mother sells Avon to one of them I think. Yes, i am the person trying to go. I want to go for several of the reasons that the kind people who have answered so qiuckly have said: to learn of new cultures, for the once in a lifetime experience, for the grand experience of travel, for the independence, I'm trying to learn how to cook and maybe being introduced to all of these different foods will help me on the way. Mainly, i want to go to learn, and it is supposted to be beautiful. We would be visiting major cities like Italy, Greece, Rome...

its not through the school, but a teacher is the person directing it.

thank you all for your help
Wolf

Basically, ask yourself: what do you anticipate to be the reasons that would stop them from letting you go? You know them best so you can figure how they would react and what they would think. Just think what they could possibly throw at you and prepare counter arguments.

Generally speaking, even at 15 years of age, if you present your idea to them clearly and easily they would be inclined to let you go. Give them the details similarly to what you have added on here, dates, duration, costs, so forth, not forgetting the REASON as to why you are going and why they should let you go!

Be honest! Let them know of any reasons that they might want to know that would stop them from allowing you to go! They will appreciate that - and further more, tell them of ways that you will handle/resolve these reasons/problems ... and do them! :)

Maybe address issues like safety, communication (between you and your parents while on the trip), responsibilty, etc when you speak to them - because the more you reassure them of your well being, good conduct, and keeping in touch.. well I would say that these things are prominent in most parents' minds. So reassure them.

Lastly - if your parents do decide not to let you go, my advice would be to not blame them or hate them, they are your parents and especially being a minor you are still under their legal care and if they decide that it is not okay for you to go then it's not the end of the world. :) There will always be a next time!

Anyway it sounds like a great trip! Good luck.

1- make a list of how you have been responsible and made good judgement calls.

2 - make sure that your parents can meet the adults involved, and suggest that they do a background check just to make sure--offer to pay (I think it's $35 or so). Maybe have the whole group over for a meeting so they feel comfortable with the group with whom you would be traveling.

3 - Give them a sample itinerary. Include any "educational" aspects of the trip and show them your interest by including facts that make you interested--such as the history of the Notre Dame Cathedral if you are going to Paris. Let them know what the outcome will be--what will you learn, and how can you use that knowledge to help you in school, for instance?

4 - Be REALLY good for the week before :)

can i ask what the program is?
anyway, just ask your parents. if you can get the money, i think they'll let you go. I went to Europe when I was fourteen, and China at fifteen. and my mom's fairly strict. and they'll especially let you go if you have all those reasons like the cultural experience and stuff.
