I mean, I saw a laptop for only $1 and shipping $45. that just doesn't make sense? what do u think about eBay?

Hmm, the laptop you saw was probably an ex. police auction or an e-book on how to make quick money from selling "laptops" like they did. In my opinion, honestly.. eBay is okay for bits and bobs, but i don't use it that often, if paying for something or selling, i'll only accept & pay by paypal, probably the easiest and safest way.

Yes, you can trust EBay if you will pay close attention to the seller's ranking. That $1 laptop you saw is a typical opening bid. The bidding may not end for several days and you can be assured it will close at more than $1!

I can trust eBay itself no problem, but eBay is just a mall administrator when comes down to it, I suppose you should ask if we can accept risks on eBay. Buyers be aware although I learnt recently same applies to big warehouse stores if they dress up as franchisees do.

$1 opening but it should approach market price fast when near the closing.

Can you trust eBay in general? How can they sell everything cheaper then market prices? Ain't some of the sellers cheating you?
