Did you know that over 700 movies/TV shows have been filmed in Utah?? I live in Utah, and I knew that a lot of movies were filmed in Utah, because I recognized the setting. But I looked up how many actually were, and I found out that over 700 were filmed here. Especially Disney Channel Movies. To list just a few, here's some:
Disney channel's Luck of the Irish
Disney Channel's big hits: High School Musical and High School Musical 2
An arctic scene from National Treasure
A little part of the Hulk
and MANY MANY MANY MORE!!!
So I was wondering why so many were filmed here. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE TELL ME!! I REALLY REALLY WANT TO KNOW!!!! EVEN IF YOU DON'T KNOW.... JUST GIVE AN OPINION WHY YOU THINK THAT SO MANY MOVIES ARE FILMED HERE!!! PLEASE PLEASE!!

There are a couple of reasons the Great Basin (Eastern California, Nevada, So. Colorado, Utah and No. New Mexico) is used:
1. It is easy to find places that you can use as a central location that have close access to very different landscapes.
Lots of areas in the Basin have mountains, rivers, open plains, large cities, etc, all within a 100 mi. radius.
2. Local support services, Extras, Craft Services, etc., etc. are often MUCH less expensive.
3. Because those areas are often friendlier to large scale films. For example, it is easier to get permission to block roads, or have explosions.

For one, it's a beautiful and diverse place, they can do the mountains, the prairies, anything else you might want.
Also, the filming there is quite cheap.
As opposed for example to Chicago, where they have to pay huge amount of money to be able to film, which is why very, very few movies are made in Chicago, even the ones that take place there.
Canada is another area that makes it cheap for film makers, so many movies are made there.
It's all about the money, babe!
