How when a team wins the world series, tons of people who aren't fans always say the game was "rigged" or that they "bought the series"?

Like in 06, people said the world series was rigged because the Cards won. They played great & deserved their win!!

And this year, people are saying boston bought the world series. Did you not SEE how bad the Rockies were playing???

Why can't anyone just lose graciously? Does it make them feel better to put down the winning team?

What do you think about this?

the sox did buy the series, because most of their roster is filled with guys that started on other teams, and were bought by the sox, that means they did buy it
i dont know who would think the cards win was tainted, they just got hot at the right time
regarding the rockies, you are right, they never stood a chance, but had it been the indians, angels, yankees or even detroit in the world series for the AL the rox still wouldnt have had a chance
it isnt a matter of belittleing the sox win, they got to the series and deserved it, but the definition of buying a series is when the vast majority of your roster has been tulled from other rosters, and since the only home grown talent on bostons roster was papplebon, lester, perdroia and ellsbury (out 25 guys) that pretty well fits the description

That is just the way some people talk and think. Boston is a great team and won graciously and really outplaying the Rockies. They did their homework through their great scouts. The pitching, defense and hitting came through for them. The Rockies are a great team too even though they lost. They are still the national league champions. They were just outplayed in just about every way. They will learn from this and I am sure next season they will be in contention again. You can't buy a championship. You win it by what you do on the field in play and prove yourself.

stupid people. good thing i dont hear this kind of thing from those stupid fans. EVERY world series winners deserved their victory. when my angels lost to the boston in the ALDS i didnt say the sox were cheaters... infact i gave them kudos because they played so well and the angels were quiet. not only our bats were weak but their pitching was excellent (beckett and schill in particular)

red sox deserved their win. rockies played horribly. congratulations 2007 world series champoins boston red sox ... (stick that to you pipe and smoke it yankees fan!....yankee hater =P)

I agree. When The Cardinals won in 2006 they simply played better baseball than My Tigers did. I gave many Kudos to them.

Either level baseless and amusingly pathetic accusations of fixing, biased arbitrating, or a set of grievously unfair playing conditions...

...or accept the culpability that one team -- YOUR team -- simply isn't as good as the opposition.

Ew, ick. Who wants to admit to being outplayed? That could reflect on one's own folly in declaring allegiance unto a lesser team!

You are so very right. What you hear are the voices of those who are first and foremost, immature. All it is, is sour grapes.

Every year it's something. I just ignore it. The beauty of sports is that it renews itself, no matter what the sport, each and every year. Just remember, nothing is forever!
