you don't need to install their OPTIONAL software. just plug it into the modem and that's it.

if you don't have an ethernet port your pc is at least 15 yrs old. i really don't believe you. the port is like a phone cord port. just a lil wider

That's quite normal because if it is not set up, then it would be open to anybody on the wireless network to configure it. Using ethernet is just helps keeping it secure.

I'd say just take it to a friend's place to configure it for the first time. After you've set up the admin password, you should be able to configure it from the wireless.

Assuming your laptop doesn't have ethernet, you'll only run into problems if the router gets reset to factory settings.

Ethernet built into mobos only because the norm about 5 years ago (and possibly 6 on more expensive desktop mobos).

You need to plug in the Ethernet cord to configure it for first use because it disables the WiFi radio by default. Borrow someones laptop to do this. Do you have a laptop? It should have a built in ethernet adapter.

does your laptop have a ethernet connection ?

if it does set your router up using your laptop, its only to put your internet settings into the router. failing that use the usb adapter

if it came with the wireless adapter, try that in there and install the drivers and such. other wise, get a pci ethernet plugin card, and plug it in there. look at different electronics stores, but look at tigerdirect.com
