A Pontiac is a good automobile, new or used. I own a 30 year old S/E Trans Am and have been that owner for 22 of them years and my brother was the original owner for the first 8 years.
No matter what car you are looking in to, do your research (the car's history) if it has more then 100,000+ miles on it.

For the sunbird? 150,000 would be approaching the end I'd say. The cars just weren't great. Now, the Sunfire was a little bit better put together. It's a pretty reliable car and has good styling too. It's great on gas mileage too. Pontiacs are really good cars.

My 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP had 160,000 miles on it three transmissions and the second engine.. I used it very hard Autocross and racetrack drag strip. It is still running fine. I now own a 14,000 mile purchased new 2006 GTO six speed manual car. Small Pontiac sunbirds and sunfires are to be left on the car lots... Unless it was your favorite Grand Mothers car and she got to old to drive. As with any car careful shopping and mechanical check out befor purchase is important.

Well I don't know about true OEM GM Pontiacs but the ones outsourced from NUMMI like the Vibe are very good. That little fast car is an awesome Mothertrucker.
I own 2 brand new luxury gas guzzler SUVs and while one was been check at the dealership where I got it from they lend me a Vibe for the day and I enjoy it very much.

Only thing I can say for sure is the 3.8 liter V6 (if its still in production) is a great one from GM. Never heard a bad word about it and is why I bought my wife a Grand Prix in '04. It just hit 80,000 and hasn't had a thing done except oil changes, tires, and brake pads. With what she has put it through, the fact that it runs @ all is amazing, but it still purrs like a kitten. Going to go take it in for a tune up / check out just to make sure it stays that way.

I have an 01 Grand Prix, and it has been very good, 131K on it and still getting 27 MPG and it is quick and roomy. My brother has a 67 Tempest still running strong, and my mom a 97 Bonneville on its last leg at 180K

I'll take a 'goat' over anything but a good Dodge Charger from the 60's any day.
