The TV ads used to say how 'healthy' it was to eat at Subway ... now they are showing ads for 'single pizzas' that are available at their stores, and I don't every see the ads with the guy who 'lost weight living on Subway sandwiches.' With all of the new 'healthy choices' available, this seems to be 'retrogressive' ... so WHY is this happening now?

THey are threatened to go out of business. Nobody wants to eat healthy anymore, it's sick. So instead of going out of business, they are slowly starting to fall into the pressure of serving fast food just like all the other places...

subway has ALWAYS had "unhealthy" choices as well as "healthy" choices. I used to work at subway. You would be surprised at how many people would come in and would get a turkey sandwhich, thinking it was a helathy choice, then load it down with Mayo & cheese.

So anyways, pizza is an interesting choice for subway. It's likely that where ever you live is a test market for this product. So it might not pan out for them.

They *still* have healthy sandwiches but they also offer single serve pizzas as well. The pizzas aren't very healthy though-- 750 calories for a pepperoni-- but they do keep you full for hours and they are pretty good.

My guess is for marketing purposes. Alot of people that I know are starting to turn away from subway...because its healthy food..If they sell something for the junk food junkies then their profits will stay up.
Also do you remember quiznoz before all of the subway hoopla. Their sanwiches had not meat at all...now that subway is promoting good health they are filling their subs up with meat to kill the competition

I think its because they have to offer some alternative items, not everyone wants to eat something healthy all of the time. I am sure that they are doing it to please their customers, for instance one of my kids doesn't like sandwiches so she always gets the pizza otherwise we would be stuck having to go to 2 different restaurants or she goes without eating.

Anyway, they have always offered cookies and those aren't healthy and neither are sodas. So although you may think of them as "Healthy" they haven't been as healthy as you might of thought.

Whats up with that is that Subway is trying to get a bigger share of the market; just like McDonald's offering some "healthier" things on their menu. It ain't about America's health, so don't fool yourself. Its all about the American dollar!

Pizza doesn't have to be unhealthy. It depends on what you put on it and how it is cooked. I prepare extremely healthy pizzas in my home... I'd prefer to eat pizza from Subway then from Pizza Hut to be honest.

Marketing shifts are common. Skinny people buy less food. Pizza is delicious.
