where being afraid of commitment is not wanting to get into a serious relationship, being afraid of DECOMMITMENT is not wanting to get OUT of a serious relationship.

That is actually a pretty good question.
Men especially are criticized for not wanting to commit to a relationship.
But few people acknowledge that a great many people fear being alone, and so they compromise.

To actually answer the question, yes I know some people who get really uncomfortable when they are not part of a couple, and I don't know why that is.
