We had a lot of Great Blue Heron's on our farm in Washington state.

Coyotes, oposum, raccoon, hawks, eagles all take down the young before they fledge and learn to fly.

After they become adults, it's usually just the Bald Eagles that kill the Great Blue Heron.

Rather ironic, isnt it? The Bald Eagles have made a great comeback, and because of that, the Great Blue Heron population is dropping rapidly.

Don't worry. Its main food is small fish less than half the length of its bill, or under 65 mm long. Its diet also includes frogs, salamanders, lizards, snakes, birds, small mammals ( your pet dog is not that small) , shrimps, crabs, crayfish , dragonflies, grasshoppers, and many other aquatic insects. Herons locate their food by sight and usually swallow it whole.
