Hi,
I do care. I suppose I paint every 5 years, do some carpet when needed or every couple of years. I get furniture as needed so to speak. I suppose I get something new every 6 months , at least lately. I am attacking the kitchen presently....new ceramic tile on the floor, new stove and dishwasher. Probably a new frige in a couple of years. And some new cabinets. After this, it will be the game room. So I am in a continual state of updating things. I guess when everything is "perfect", then it iwll be time to move...LOL.

Well we seem to either add to, or take away, if we're tired of
it, or it's showing wear. I've always had a theme to the living
room, and I've changed 'themes' several times. And in between I change the rooms around to look different and give
a 'new' feel to the room. Not so much now, but when I was
younger and had the strength. For a couple of years I had
'early' marriage, renting furnished. Then after we had a child,
we rented furniture for a living room. And borrowed a dinette.
It wasn't long before we bought things one at a time, and I
had a leopard look going. Black naughahyde couch and some rattan chairs and a coffee table and plants hanging from macame hangers (the 70's). I had a ceramic panther on
the coffee table with rhinestone green eyes LOL. And a
painting over the couch with a leopard with black accents.
Gold fiberglass curtains and gold pillows on the couch. And
a nice wooden dining room set in a ultra modern design.
The next was a Spanish look, and it carried on for several
years. Wrought iron accents and lots of candles and brown
leatherette couch and love seat and a heavy spanish look
to a hanging lamp in the corner and big square tables. Then
our last look has been southwest and changed into western.
We used to have alot of real collectibles from our living in
Arizona. And now we have more indian collectibles. And
have a leather couch with the metal trim of old western chairs
with the round metal thumbtacks. Hubby is an accomplished
artist and he provides most of the wall decor. Some he hasn't
wanted to sell, so they hang still. So this is the look we intend
to stay with since it's too hard to come by authentic pieces.
And we are comfortable with the look. We each have his and
hers recliners now. Out of necessity, I might add. And we find
they are the perfect answer to a sleepless night, since they
contour to your back better than most mattresses. And if you
have arthritus in your back, you would appreciate a good
nights' sleep without pain or drugs. Which we no longer have
using the recliners. Lazy Boys' and some others lay down
almost flat. But we elevate ours due to sinus or breathing
problems. They're so much better than a mattress. We finally
sold our almost new $1,000. Simmons set, for $150. last
year to give us more space for storing stuff in our bedroom.
The young couple were sure pleased to get such a great
deal. They were grinning from ear to ear.
So in answer to your original question, I would say I go a
couple years or three and then I want a change. Sometimes
I can't wait that long. It depends on what we run across at a
bargain that we can use, and have the space for. Which is
not much now. I'm already thinking, 'Christmas Tree', or no
Christmas tree this year. LOL.

I am usually sick of decor in about 3 years...so out with the old and in with the new. I dont' care what shape it is in, if I am tired of it, it is time to change it. And yes, I do care. I live here, and I want what I want. I just redid the livingroom.... unfortunately, this one will not last 3 years, I am not so sure I like it today! The only thing in this house that has years on it (35 to be exact) is my bedroom, and I can't find anything I like as well as what I already have. Ain' that the pits! Mattresses come and go, but the furniture stayes the same. I have always loved the look of hooks and chains hanging from the ceiling :-)

Heck, if you get it right the first time you NEVER need to redecorate ;0]

years ago it was whenever we bought a whole case of oranges and/or the neighbors redecorated and put the good stuff out at the road

LOL! I have never had the luxury of being able to start from scratch when I get tired of my furniture. My parents didn't do it either, so I'm just used to living an eclectic life-style! Secretly though, if I did have the money to do that, it would probably be every five years or so. We wait until things are shreaded, uncomfortable, stained too much to live with or someone gives us a replacement!

LOL! As a former interior decorator, are you kidding? LOL! Hubby goes to work and comes home and has wondered if he is in the right house! lol This is actually true!

We lived in a house, on the lake and my partner and I, changed the wallpaper, in the entrance, on a regular basis! We would sew curtains and such as well! He would come home and usually..."been at it again, I see!" lol We even got into using the couch covers just to create a different look without getting rid of my new furniture!

So, in answer to your question, I live in aan ever changing environment! Not good for people who do not like change! lol

One of our interprises is in salvage. So you never pay retail for anything. Pick from what is available... and pleased to be priviledged to have that option. After the grankids have intentionally trashed in or a pretty cool store's inventory has been bought in a going out of business sale.
By the time I own it--it's out of fashion. Sometimes i skip whole eras. Other times we change every few months.

I am constantly changing things around. My husband comes home from work in the middle of the night and wham right into something that wasnt there in the daylight. It is funny. Last week I brought home exercise equipment for my son and he said what are we going to do with them? Now he uses them the most. go figure.

My belongings including the clothes I wear age timeless and beyond "age". I have never been one to go for trends so what I have cannot be labeled in any way. I'm happy with what I have and haven't thought of buying new furniture or anything else for that matter, except new sneakers when I need them.
