These dealerships advertise that mileage increases and maintenance is less when they fill your tires with nitrogen. What have you experienced?

That's just ridiculous. It's a scam. The molecular weight of nitrogen is 28, air is 29, so nitrogen does weigh less. The rest of the calculation is left as an excercise for the student.

It probably reduces the weight of your car by a gram or two. There's no way you'd be able to tell.

The biggest advantage, so car racers claim, is the ability of nitrogen to maintain its' constant volume (and thus pressure) better with increasing temperatures. Air, as you know, expands considerably (thus increasing tire pressures)with increasing temperatures. Other than that, I believe that the disadvantages, i.e. cost, lack of availability, etc, outweigh any advantages. I don't believe there is any mileage or maintenance advantage to speak of.

The air you put in the tires at service station is something like 70% or so nitrogen so what would be the point of buying it?

I know that it doesn't expand and contract as much as regular shop air does, so I guess with the way it could help with gas millage. If you ask me it just seems like more of a hassle because you can't inflate your own tires and stuff you have to go to a place that has nitrogen.
Hope that helped a little
