Well.......high school or college?

People will be interested if they're pissed off, so try to think of something they'll disagree with, something controversial. They may argue at the end, but if you can defend your position and keep everyone interested, your grade will show it.

Hello:

I was going to suggest going to any internet search engine and just checking out what the most popular search topics are as a jumping off point.

How about: The Internet: What it is really used for? or really the internet is so big you could just talk about its potential.

Another topic: Celebrity Obsession: Why can't we leave them alone?

Really when it comes to a speech like this its best to pick something that you are interested in so you can enjoy talking about it for 10 mins. and believe me it will come through.

I might suggest avoiding topics like abortion or the war because it has a tendency to dividing the class into (at least) 2 groups and often shouting. Unless thats your goal.

Good luck

The evolution of music; or fashion. I remember in the early nineties we swore we'd never wear bell bottoms or grow our hair out like in the seventies. Watch "No Cure For Cancer" by Denis Leary. Good stuff for "research" there. Seriously.

Why not do a speech on the effects of too much fast food on teenagers?

You could talk about internet security and myspace.com. It seems like all kids are into Myspace and you could give them ideas on how to protect themselves from wierdos on the internet.

How about talking about your personal philosophy and how it interacts with others. You should feel comfortable talking about it and it will probably geberate a healthy discussion with the audience.
