thanks for the ebay suggestion but most of those are creepy or of sesame street characters. I dont want a creepy one!

You don't need one.
Ventriloquist acts just aren't popular anymore.
They're old fashioned.
Look for a new idea.
Example: If you can do good voices all you want are two cardboard boxes.
One either side of you.
There is someone in each box - simple as that.
You could build an act up with that.
OR better still
How about certain parts of your body start speaking to each other?
Example: Left hand to right hand.
"So, how's it going?"
"Not good. You'll never guess what I had to do with a piece of toilet paper this morning!"
