Never been able to have because it either doesn't exist (my dream pet doesn't) or it's something like an elephant or tiger, which may be a little hard to take care of.
When I was a little girl, I wanted a Simorgh(a mythical flying creature). It is said to have seen the destruction of the world 3 times and posses the knowledge of all the ages. Just think of the stories it could tell you...

Ever since I saw The never Ending Story as a child I always wanted a giant flying dog thing. How cool would that be?! Plus, I hear they're quite environmentally friendly. Legend has it they're even cleaner than a Prius!!!

Probably a ferret. They're supposed to be smelly though, but so am I so, eh. For none existent animals, I'd go with the obvious and get a dragon. Or one of those Pegasus horses, whatever that species was called.
And to an earlier ill-informed comment, the giant flying dog fart is actually more destructive to the o-zone layer than an entire pasture of cows! Environmentally friendly my ***!

Lol, thats cute, not only was I deprived of a pet, I was also deprived of an imagination.
I wanted anything that moved... my parents wouldn't let me have anything. My friend's hamster had a couple of babies and couldn't keep them all, so I picked one out, named it Squishy and fell in love with it.... but my mom made me give it back...... I do have a pet rock though. :0)

I named him Rufus (what I would have named my puppy if I had one)... lol. I also had about 30 stuff animals that served as better pets cause they were at least fluffy.
