I had my old StarTac for almost 3 years. It didn't actually break. I just had to get a new one because the battery finally died for good, and I couldn't find a replacement. However, every phone I've had since then, has met with some sort of gruesome ending. Usually one too many drops.

I've never had one that broke and I get a new one every 2 years.
I remember a couple years ago though I was on the train and there was a guy that was talking on one of those really bulky ones that came out in the early 90's. It was really weird because he looked normal.

I've never had one break, actually. I have had a total of 5, but I always just upgrade when my plan allows me to get a cheap phone. They have all worked just fine when I finished with them, though. I either sold or passed them down.

I'm on my first cell phone,had it nearly two yrs,only dropped it twice,It is from Alltell,only paid fourteen dollars for it.My nephew got the same phone after he had broken three other phones,and his Alltell (cheapy) is working great for him.
