When Princess Elizabeth was a child, Her father, King George VI gave her a corgi as a present. The present day corgis are descendants of the original gift. The Queen has many animals - other dogs, horses, budgerigars and pigeons but the corgis are Her Majesty's favourites.

Because HRM the Queen's first dog was a corgi and now they're her favorite. Plus they are kinda cute.
