U2 was the best band to come out of the 80s because they are one of the few bands to continually have hits after the 80s have come and gone.

Swans. Because songs like Gang, Big Strong Boss, and Raping a Slave flew in the face of the happy-crappy pap that was being force fed to the masses. They defied all expectations and constantly strove to break the rules and not let commerce and a big record contract color what they believed in.

Cinderella. I'm a military fiction author and have used their music in a lot of my books. Some scenes just don't seem right if the right song isn't playing while I read it.
