My kids live in other states and countries. I am hoping someone will "adopt" me for the holidays and I can spend time with them instead of alone.

Unfortunately, there is a growing tradition going on here that I am the one who spends all day in the kitchen preparing a meal that lasts about one hour, takes 12 days to clean up after, and fills the house with language that would embarrass a sailor. (that is shortly after I have added a piece of my finger to the salad). Mind you, I am not gripping one bit. I am simply saying I hate cooking, I had pots, pans, stoves, sinks, refrigerators, appliances of any kind, and dishwashering machines specificially. I hate making floral arrangements for the table, and I hate dragging out the china, stemware, and flatware. Mind you, someone has to put all this stuff back somehow, sometime, someway, without breaking any of it. FOR ONE HOUR of eating???? What the hell is wrong with this picture! All of the "oh, this tastes so good, Phil," is no more than a pitiful display of "invite me back next year so I don't have to do what you have done.".... no more, no less...who in the hell do they think they are kidding. Now, I must go, for the best turkeys will be gone if I don't get to the store soon. Now that this is off my chest, I have to plan Thanksgiving dinner. Peace and love, Goldwing

No.....in all honesty I go through the whole tradition for traditions sake. It's nothing but us 2. I send money so my kids can buy a turkey and extras because none of us can afford to travel. For years I had to work on that day....then there's the relative battle over who's in-laws you go to...and who's feelings will be hurt the most and which one might be the last one.....
I had 2 really memorable Thanksgivings. 1 was in college. We had alot of foreign students and a short break. So we had a pot luck Thanksgiving dinner for all of us.
Second....I lived in New York. Horrible snow storm.....we (friends and myself) took turkeys to the local Indian reservation because they were in bad shape and someone stole most of their tribes buffalo. Funny thing is we got the turkeys from a Jewish grocery store because the rest were closed. Just goes to show you can get along and still work together and honor each others traditions without diminishing others.

Yes. Our family has been dwindling over the last few years. My mom died last summer, her sister the summer before and her brother the year before that. My kids are usually working (restaurant jobs). This year, my sister has invited us (Dad, me, another sister and her daughter) to join her inlaws for Thanksgiving. They're a little clique-y and I find it pretty uncomfortable. They have lots of little traditions like burned sweet potatoes, and I just feel like an outsider. We did this last Easter too, and I really don't want to go. BUT, I also don't want to hurt her feelings so I guess I'm going.

Oh yes, we do the whole Thanksgiving thing up. We will be hosting again this year, but everyone pitches in on the food preparation and clean up, including the grand kids. After we're done, we divy up the food and talk about what we'll have for our Christmas dinner!

My 23 year old son is in the Army and he will be home for Thanksgiving for the first time in 4 years. I can't wait, my two daughters live here in San Antonio and they want me to cook for them like when they were small.

There have been times when I spent it with friends, too. Particularly when my kids were growing up and after my divorce, as they would go to their father's and my parents were living out of town.
One year my best friend and her family and I actually had filet mignon and lobster tails for
T-G dinner!
But in recent years my family gets together every holiday..my kids, grands and my mom and my ex hubby.
I look forward to it :-)

Our entire extended family will be gathering at the home of my son-in-law's parents. My daughter, her m-i-l, and I are already talking about who will bring what dishes and what time we will meet. Our family is ALWAYS together on holidays and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I'm sending my guy to Texas to see his mother. I love his mother........she was a USO entertainer.......but his controlling, judgemental sister is part of the bargain. I hope to never see her again.
I'm also planning on a Thanksgiving with friends.
