Do it in stages:
To get the lead term, you MUST have
( 3x +/- something) ( x +/- something)
To be more succinct
( 3x + a)(x + b)
Why have I now changed to both + signs?
Because one of a or b might be -ve, but we'll find out as we go!
Those two numbers MUST be 5, 7 or 7,5.
O.K. so try some possibilities.
Could it be (3x + 5)(x + 7) NO we are getting +35, not -35.
Could it be (3x + 7)(x + 5) NO again.
Could it be (3x - 5)(x + 7) No, it will not give the right x term.
Could it be (3x + 5)(x - 7) YES, that is correct.
