Ive been in this situation and debated with myself long and hard on whether to keep the money. I eventually after 5 hours handed it in to the police who had already had the owner report it.
The rightful owner was a lone dad who had withdrawn all the money he had in the world to treat his two children which he was seeing for the first time in two months since his divorce. He couldnt afford to lose that sort of money.
I am so glad i didnt keep it as i would have wrestled with myself every day! And could you imagine the guilt every time a put on the shoes that i had thought about buying with the money.
Honesty is definately the best policy.

In my job often find purses / wallets, credit card holders when they slip out of pockets etc. Always count the money in front of a witness, then look for an address or telephone number to contact. If not ring the credit card bank and try to get them to contact the person.
Always cut the credit cards in two, this shows that they can not be used if found.

I found a wallet with a lot of money in it. It also had cards and a membership card for a social club. I traced the owner and returned it.

I would do as I have always done and attempt to return it to the owner with all the money, etc, inside.
It's not mine and the I'm sure the owner would want it back. It's not a matter of religion, or anything like that, I just wouldn't like myself if I was the type of person who would keep it.

Contact the owner and return it. If it were my wallet, I would hope someone would do the same.

Find the owner and return it.
I don`t think I`d hand it in to the coppers, the money would probably disappear.
