In general a 4 20mm Ballast aggregate to 1 Cement ratio is sufficient.
Works supervised by Architects/ Building surveyors would require a Cube or Sphere test. These test the crushing power of the Concrete when cured for a period of time. The best way is to order in a ready mix concrete to the total of cubic meter required, this will allow a continuous flow with no jointing.

It's 1:3:6, cement:sand:gravel. Yes, use 20mm for footings. Dig deep enough below the frost line.

i would do a 3to 1 mix if your including the floor 3 3/4 ballast to 1 cement

Topman has given the best advice. Get in a readymix wagon and save your back.
At least you know the mix is correct.
A single garage footing, is at least 13 linear m of footing x 450mm x 450mm so I make that over 2.5 cubic metres of concrete required.

6 chippings 3 sand 2 cement, and mix on the wet side, atleast 6inches

nothing wrong with that ..but remember its by weight not by volume ..a shovel full of sharp sand weighs a lot more than a sh ovel of cement ..or else the mix will be too weak ....for the prats who say its by volume ..get a life ..i worked as a batcher (hes the guy who mixes the concrete ) for three years ..we worked by weight ..never ever by volume ....the gravel was weighed ..then the sand then the cement ..and even the water was weighed ..later in life whilst working on a goverment contract ..the bricklayers labourers had two wooden boxes for mixing one for cement and one for mixed agg ....the box for cement was a lot bigger than the agg box ..your still a prat

for a footer , all you need is a 1 cement : 3 sand : 6 gravel mix...p.s. boy boy , actually it is by volume not weight ...do your homework
